Attorney Travis Brennan Representing Family of Infant Baby in Lawsuit Against Funeral Home

Approaching the one-year anniversary of the death of Emma Korzeb, her parents Corrina and Ray filed a lawsuit against Bibber Memorial Chapel, citing the mortuary’s negligence in handling their infant daughter. Following the unexpected death of Emma, the Korzebs engaged Bibber Memorial Chapel in February 2023 to arrange a private viewing for the family to say a final goodbye to Emma. Yet when the family arrived they were horrified and distraught to see the decomposing body of their baby, rendered unrecognizable due to her mishandling by Bibber’s staff. The lawsuit includes counts of negligence, infliction of emotional distress, and breach of contract.
“It is reprehensible that these parents were caused additional, unnecessary pain and suffering while already coping with the unimaginable grief of losing their infant daughter,” said their attorney Travis Brennan of Berman & Simmons. “An increasing number of Maine families are dealing with the pain caused by the mishandling of their loved ones. This is particularly alarming because Maine’s population is aging and the demand for these services will only continue to increase. The mortuary industry needs to ensure it adheres to the highest standards when taking on this solemn responsibility.”
