Meet Attorney Charles King

Charlie King has done substantive work in national, high-profile cases

Hailing from New Orleans, attorney Charlie King has broad experience litigating all stages of personal injury cases, including product liability actions, medical malpractice, and mass torts, both in state and federal court. He is no stranger to high-profile cases and has done substantive work in some of the largest Multi-District Litigation in the country, including the BP Oil Spill disaster, the Chinese Drywall litigation, and various national pharmaceutical and product liability cases.

A formidable negotiator and highly skilled legal researcher and writer, Charlie has extensive experience in appellate litigation and motions practice. He has argued appeals before the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and various state courts, argued motions, and drafted dissents and amicus briefs on issues of importance for trial lawyers.

A master at clarifying complex legal theories and demystifying legal jargon

Following in his grandfather’s footsteps, Charlie always knew that at its core, being a lawyer is about helping people. At Berman & Simmons, he works in collaboration with personal injury attorneys to strategize the best legal approaches to ensure that our clients’ stories are heard. A natural problem solver and communicator, Charlie excels at breaking down complex legal theories into clear, concise concepts. He believes in simple, persuasive writing intended to demystify legal jargon and humanize his client’s experience.

Charlie is proud to be a part of a team of attorneys who are dedicated to helping people who have suffered devastating injuries. He is thrilled to join a law firm that is so intentional about its goals and purpose, and that offers such diverse and challenging work. Working at Berman & Simmons has empowered him to be the kind of lawyer he’s always wanted to be. Charlie believes that good lawyering is good story-telling. Judges and juries are people too. He knows that he serves his clients best when he tells their stories plainly and truthfully. He believes that the justice system, more often than not, is still made up of people who want to do good.

“We do what we do because of the people we serve. Solving legal problems is interesting, but my greatest successes come from understanding our clients and making their voices heard.”

A Louisiana native, Charlie is excited to be a member of the Maine bar and the Lewiston-Auburn community

Charlie grew up in southeastern Louisiana before moving to Maine in 2022. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in physics and received his J.D. from Tulane University Law School in New Orleans. Following law school, he clerked for Justice James W. Kitchens of the Mississippi Supreme Court, where he saw first-hand how one person’s case can make a difference for everyone. He is admitted to practice before all Maine state courts, all Louisiana state courts, the Western, Middle, and Eastern Districts of Louisiana, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He has been recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star and a Chambers USA One to Watch in Appellate Litigation in Louisiana.

Charlie, along with his wife and their three young children, are still discovering everything that Maine’s beautiful surroundings have to offer. They are enjoying learning to ski and sled in the winter months and camping and hiking in the summer.
