“People deserve access to justice and the highest quality representation, no matter their wealth, background or circumstances. This philosophy has sustained us for the past century, and hopefully will continue to do so for the next 100 years.”
― Jack Simmons
Helping the people of Maine for over 100 years
The story of Berman & Simmons began in 1914 when Benjamin Berman hung a shingle on Lisbon Street in Lewiston, Maine. Berman and his brother David became known as trusted advocates for the men and women who worked at the city’s many textile mills and shoe factories. Their commitment to working Mainers and their willingness to take on the most complex and controversial cases remain hallmarks of the firm today.
Over time, Berman & Simmons has evolved from a general practice firm to a more specialized statewide plaintiff’s trial law firm. We continue, however, to be dedicated to our community and fighting tirelessly on behalf of those who have been injured through no fault of their own.
Today, Berman & Simmons is widely recognized as the best personal injury law firm in Maine. Indeed, we work tirelessly everyday to be not just the best trial firm in Maine, but one of the very best in the country. We have won some of the largest medical malpractice and personal injury verdicts in Maine history. In fact, two of our firm’s landmark cases have been recognized in The National Law Journal’s Top 100 U.S. Verdicts. In many other cases, we have succeeded in advancing Maine law to protect the rights of those who have been injured or harmed because of someone else’s negligence.
Devoted to making our clients’ lives better
Berman & Simmons takes pride in obtaining extraordinary results for clients through our team’s unmatched skills, resources, experience, and mastery of civil jury trials. We are dedicated to the people we represent and making a positive impact in the life of each client. For us, it’s about the clients we serve:
- An electrical line worker who lost his lower legs when he was electrocuted on the job. Our team uncovered a trail of corporate negligence that led directly to the tragic incident, and we were able to hold those companies accountable. In doing so, we were able to provide the worker’s family with the financial security they deserve.
- A mother whose son was born with cerebral palsy after her labor was mismanaged. Despite an aggressive defense by the hospital, we won her case, insuring her son has the medical care he will need for the rest of his life.
- A father of five who was killed in a collision with a wood chip truck. A jury agreed with us that the truck’s brakes were not properly maintained, causing the incident. Because of this, we were able to recover compensation for his children for their tragic loss.
We’re proud to provide seriously injured clients the unmatched resources and talent necessary to ensure their story is heard so they can begin getting their lives back on track.
