Attorney Elizabeth Kayatta Named Shareholder; Attorneys Kristin Murray-James and Charles King Join Firm

Berman & Simmons has named trial attorney Elizabeth Kayatta as its newest shareholder and announced Kristin Murray-James and Charles King have joined the firm.

Elizabeth focuses on medical malpractice, sexual abuse, wrongful death, and personal injury cases, representing clients who have suffered catastrophic and life-altering injuries. She joined the firm in 2017 and has earned the following recognitions: National Trial Lawyers Top 100, Best Lawyers in America, Ones to Watch, and Super Lawyers Top Medical Malpractice Attorney.

Elizabeth is currently part of a coalition of four prominent law firms assembled to represent victims and their families associated with the tragic mass shooting on October 25 in Lewiston, ME.

A Maine Native, Elizabeth earned degrees from Princeton University and Boston College Law School, where she graduated magna cum laude. Elizabeth practiced high-stakes litigation in Boston before returning to Maine in 2017. Among her successes at Berman & Simmons, Elizabeth has recovered some of the largest sexual abuse settlements in the state.

Kristin is a dedicated public servant. Early in her career, Kristin worked as a certified nurse midwife, seeding her passion to advocate for women and families, after which she graduated from the University of Maine School of Law. Previously Kristin was an Assistant District Attorney in Kennebec County, where she focused primarily on domestic violence, sex crimes, and crimes against children. She is the newest member of Berman & Simmons Sexual Abuse Survivors Practice.

Hailing from Louisiana originally, Charles King received degrees from Louisiana State University and Tulane University Law School. He has been recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star and a Chambers USA One to Watch in Appellate Litigation in Louisiana. Charlie has broad experience litigating all stages of personal injury cases, including product liability actions, medical malpractice, and mass torts, both in state and federal court. He now lives in Maine with his wife and three children.
