Attorney Elizabeth Kayatta Joins Berman & Simmons
LEWISTON, Maine, Dec. 14, 2017 – Attorney Elizabeth Kayatta, a Maine native who has spent the past five years in Boston representing plaintiffs in medical malpractice cases and other civil disputes, has joined the Berman & Simmons law firm.
She will represent plaintiffs in medical malpractice, personal injury, wrongful death and other civil litigation matters.
Kayatta grew up in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. She attended Princeton University and graduated magna cum laude from Boston College Law School. Kayatta officially joined the firm Dec. 1, working at its central office in Lewiston. Berman & Simmons, a statewide law firm with offices in Lewiston, Portland, and Bangor, has been recognized by Chambers USA and other legal guides as the best personal injury and medical malpractice firm in Maine.
Among her achievements, Kayatta has won a $1.1 million jury verdict for a 70-year-old woman who suffered an injury to her small intestine during surgery; a $3 million settlement for the widow and children of a man whose disease was not properly treated; and a $2 million settlement for a 22-year-old whose cancer treatment was delayed because of a misdiagnosis.
Kayatta said she is excited to return to Maine, and looks forward to working collaboratively with the other lawyers and staff members at Berman & Simmons.
“It’s rare to have a group of top-notch trial attorneys who are performing at the highest level and who see themselves as part of a true team,” Kayatta said. “They care deeply about their clients and they carry out their jobs with dignity, respect, and a high level of professionalism. It’s a great opportunity to become part of that group.”
