COVID-19 Update

The spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is having a significant impact on people’s lives in our communities and throughout the world. At Berman & Simmons, we are taking this evolving situation very seriously.

We’re carefully monitoring the news in Maine and around the U.S. and being proactive in our efforts to stay on top of the COVID-19 crisis. As a firm, we’re responding to medical guidelines responsibly and taking measures to ensure the health and safety of our employees and the general public. We’re also implementing action plans to keep our business running as smoothly as possible during these unprecedented times.

As events are unfolding, we wanted to share a message to let you know where we stand.

 Our Work Continues Remotely

Following federal, state, and local mandates, our three office locations in Lewiston, Portland, and Bangor are operating remotely. However, we continue to accept new clients and maintain regular contact with our existing clients via email and phone consultations. We’re holding meetings, working closely with medical providers, and moving our current caseloads forward, all within a virtual-office infrastructure. Thanks to our nimble team, our lawyers and legal professionals are now doing their exceptional work from the safety of their homes. Don’t hesitate to call, we look forward to speaking with you.

Our “Business As Usual” Will Be a Little Unusual

Whether you work with us as a current client, a client new to our firm, or as a referring attorney, you can expect the same expertise, professionalism and resources we’ve always delivered. However, the way in which we offer our services will be a little different. For example, you can expect more electronic communications, and instead of a face-to-face meeting, we may connect with you via a conference call or video chat. Due to our work from home protocols, there may be a slight delay in response to emails or phone calls.

Additionally, given that courts have suspended civil hearings and trials until it’s safe to re-open their courtrooms, it’s reasonable to expect some delays in the prosecution of legal matters. Even though the courts are closed, our dedicated lawyers and staff will still doing what they can to resolve claims with insurance companies and prepare cases for trial.

We understand changes can be difficult and we will continue to look for ways to make our new business practices work for you.

We’ve been helping our seriously injured clients obtain extraordinary results for over 100 years and we will continue to fight tirelessly on your behalf, no matter the circumstances.
