Robert Furbish added as co-author of ‘Maine Tort Law’

Attorney Robert Furbish of Berman & Simmons has been added as a co-author of the 2018 edition of Maine Tort Law, the definitive reference guide for civil litigators statewide, published by LexisNexis and released in late December.

This new edition marks the 25th anniversary of Maine Tort Law as an essential resource for attorneys, summarizing the legal requirements of tort causes of action recognized in Maine courts.

Furbish is one of three principal authors for the 2018 edition. The others are Jack Simmons, the legendary lawyer who joined Berman & Simmons in 1964 and remains of counsel to the firm that bears his name, and University of Maine School of Law Professor Donald Zillman.

The book is frequently cited by the courts of Maine, including the Supreme Judicial Court, the Superior Court, and the Federal District Court. The common law and statutory requirements for each cause of action are examined, and the law of other states is referenced where Maine law is lacking or where useful comparisons can be made. The authors discuss the principles underlying tort damages, as well as tort liability.
