Attorney Taylor Asen, a Maine native who spent the past two years in New York City representing plaintiffs in class action and mass tort cases, has joined the Berman & Simmons law firm.
Asen will represent plaintiffs in personal injury cases, including motor vehicle and medical malpractice cases, and complex civil litigation matters. Asen officially joined the firm on June 13 at the Lewiston office. He is excited to return to Maine and begin his work at Berman & Simmons. The firm celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2014, and is widely recognized as the best personal injury law firm in Maine, and among the best in the nation.
“The attorneys at Berman & Simmons are among the highest quality of trial lawyers that you will find anywhere,” Asen said. “They take pride in their work and in the level of service they provide for each and every client. That is what attracted me most about this opportunity.”
Asen’s career in the legal profession began with an interest in fighting tort reform in the late 2000s. As a paralegal, he worked for a New York City firm on a major class action case against a pharmaceutical company. The experience solidified his decision to earn his law degree and work on behalf of people who have been harmed.
Originally from Portland, Maine, Asen was a top scholar at George Washington University, and graduated from Yale Law School in 2012. While at Yale, Asen participated in the Veterans Legal Services Clinic and the LGBT Litigation Project. He was co-chair of the Civil Justice Committee of the Yale Chapter of the American Constitution Society, and served as managing editor of the Yale Human Rights & Development Law Journal.
Asen has served as a law clerk for the Honorable J. Paul Oetken of the Southern District of New York, and for the Honorable Julio M. Fuentes of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Asen is licensed to practice law in New York, and will be taking the bar exam in July to obtain licensure in Maine.
