Accounting Specialist

Berman & Simmons, P.A., a busy litigation law firm in Lewiston, is seeking an Accounting Specialist to join our team. The Accounting Specialist will work in collaboration with a small team to provide support in all areas of accounting, with a primary focus on accounts payable and accounts receivable.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Accounts Payable

  • Verify, record, and process transactions. 
  • Confirm accuracy of settlement requests, obtain attorney approval, and process checks.
  • Pay and reconcile credit card purchases.

Accounts Receivable

  • Enter and process deposits via online banking portal
  • Process write-offs
  • Review A/R for attorneys and report amounts due to Controller

Other Duties

  • Maintain accurate and complete records, including ledgers, journals, invoices, receipts.
  • Assisting the accounting department in daily, monthly, and annual activities. 
  • Close cases using online case management system.  
  • General office support to include filing and assisting with overflow calls.

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, is required.
  • Experience using QuickBooks Online is preferred.

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb stairs, stoop, and use general office equipment, including computer keyboards & mouse devices.
